A note to myself Started the year with My Friends by Frederick Backman, and I’ve got my heart in a twist. His writing is funny and filled with emotion, reminding us of love and compassion around us. I’m also craving a sunny day by the beach, which will be a while considering how cold it’s getting. Recent reads and (re)reads All the books I’d read this year made me reminisce the places I’d spent reading them. Like, I remember reading Pablo Naruda at a training in mg old workplace, struggling to control my yawns. Quite a few books with friends. The Elif Shafak book with a classmate from Sprogskole… “There are rivers in the sky” is a masterpiece of a novel by Elif Shafak. It begins, and ends, with a droplet of water first witnessing the cruelty of King Ashurbanipal, and later three characters connected to the land of Nineveh - a Yazidi girl struggling to survive in her own country, a women figuring herself out, and a man from the 1800s obsessed with the stories of ancient Mesopotamia. Watching these theee people’s stories coming together took my breath away! A short sweet getaway to a quiet beach town I met some interesting people over the past few days that made me think about how having taste comes from knowing yourself. Shutting out the public discourse and noise isn’t easy, but we try x Greek Lessons was a tough read, even though it is only 192 pages. Set in a Greek classroom, we see the perspectives of a teacher who is slowly going blind and a student with Aphasia, a condition that prevents you from speaking. The writing is very broken and filled with inner meanings, about each characters love and loss. This is when I look the book’s plot up on Goodreads 😪
